I remember reading years ago in a book about spirituality that the "clouds" or difficult times in life were just passing phenomenon, something not ultimately real...that the beauty, brilliance and perfection of the sun was the true nature of life.
Fast forward to today...
During my run today I glanced up at the sky and realized that the clouds are just as beautiful as the sun, just as important and necessary. True freedom is the ability to embrace and appreciate both...to "love what is" as Byron Katie would say.
I'm such a sucker for metaphor...
Get turned on! WOOOHOOO
"You cannot get sick enough to help sick people get better. You cannot get poor enough to help poor people thrive. It is only in your thriving that you have anything to offer anyone. If you're wanting to be of an advantage to others, be as tapped in, turned in, turned on as you can possibly be." ~ Abraham-Hicks
Master just ONE skill...
"The most valuable skill or talent that you could ever develop is that of directing your thoughts toward what you want—to be adept at quickly evaluating all situations and then quickly coming to the conclusion of what you most want—and then giving your undivided attention to that." ~ Abraham-Hicks
Faith...
"Faith is "having the courage to live as if everything that happens is for our highest good and learning." ~ Dan Millman
Personal development is for wimps!?
I LOVE personal development work...for both myself and my clients. For me there is no option. This blog post describes why...

It’s hilarious to me that many people can’t wrap their head around PD (personal development) as though there’s a sort of stigma attached to it which likely originated from the designation of the “Self-Help” category publishers are so fond of using. What’s ‘funny’ about it of course is these are the same people who think they are perfect (the problem is everyone else) and yet, for some reason they’re not sure why they don’t have more ’success’ in life.
Who knows? All I know is that without the constant pursuit of personal development/improvement to outpace the compounding effects of change along with the mindset to embrace and accept the challenges said change brings about, my life would be very different...

Ebb and flow...
"Life has its ebb and flow. It builds up, and then it clears out. You need this rhythm, just as you need to breathe in and breathe out. Like your body, your soul gets filled with pollutants. Dark moments are part of the rhythm by which you fill up and empty out. Too many writers emphasize incessant growth....We should also speak for being still and not getting anywhere. The entire cycle is crucial." ~ Thomas Moore
Closure?
I'll never have closure on losing my ex-husband Courtney, but I don't need closure. I'm not even sure what that means. What I have is a safe, protected, untouchable place in my heart that holds all the deep love, incredible memories and the eventual healing that defines our enduring connection.
I'm not "celebrating" the death of bin laden; I'm remembering & reflecting on the man Courtney was and so grateful for the time I had with him.
I came across this again today written by Erma Bombeck after she found out she was dying from cancer. Speaks directly to my heart and I wanted to share...
IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER...
STOP SWEATING ABOUT THE SMALL STUFF!!! Don't worry about who doesn't like you, who has more, or who's doing what. Instead, let's cherish the relationships we have with those who do love us.
IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER...
- I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day.
- I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.
- I would have talked less and listened more.
- I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained, or the sofa faded.
- I would have eaten the popcorn in the 'good' living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.
- I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.
- I would have shared more of the responsibility carried by my husband.
- I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer's day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.
- I would have sat on the lawn with my grass stains.
- I would have cried and laughed less while watching television and more while watching life.
- I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn't show soil, or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.
- Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.
- When my children kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, 'Later. Now go and wash your hands for dinner.'
- There would have been more 'I love you's' More 'I'm sorry's'.
- But mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute, look at it and really see it. Live it and never give it back.
STOP SWEATING ABOUT THE SMALL STUFF!!! Don't worry about who doesn't like you, who has more, or who's doing what. Instead, let's cherish the relationships we have with those who do love us.
